本作由RelatedDesigns與BlueByte（《工人物語》系列製作組）合作開發，本作的口號是
將玩家帶進「一個受今天的挑戰和明天的科技所啟發的世界」。

育碧稱：「《紀元2070》的背景設定在一個近未來的環境中，由於氣候的改變，曾經豐饒的
